Suspension/Exclusion Arrangements

At Carterhatch, we strive to avoid suspensions or exclusions whenever possible. However, if a student significantly or repeatedly violates the school's behaviour for learning policy, suspension or exclusion may be necessary. This is a serious consequence, and the decision will be made based on the nature of the behaviour and in alignment with the school's policy.

When determining whether to suspend or exclude a student, the headteacher takes into account the school’s responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010. A full investigation will be conducted to understand the circumstances and reasons behind the incident before a decision is made.

If a student is excluded, the headteacher will inform the parents or carers and explain the reasons for the exclusion.

In the case of a suspension, the headteacher will notify the parents or carers of the suspension’s length and inform them of their right to appeal to the Local Board of Governors.

During a suspension, the student is expected to stay at home, and work will be provided. Parents or carers must attend a reintegration meeting before the student can return to lessons.
